Regardless of the Quarterback, the Eagles Offensive Line Must Get Better

Let me start off by saying that Kevin Kolb is the QB of this team until he can prove that he cannot handle the situation. Vick has really stepped up his game but let’s face it, the Eagles are not a Super Bowl team this year. Therefore, we have to find out what we have in Kolb, because this is the last year that Vick is under contract.
Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk about the struggles of the offensive line.
The offensive line has been awful during the first two games of the season. Without Vick’s legs, I am not sure if the Eagles would have won the game on Sunday. Vick used his legs to extend the play, but he was under constant pressure all game. A quarterback is not going to be successful if he doesn’t have an offensive line giving him time to throw. I understand that the Lions were blitzing a lot, but our line looked like a revolving door.
While the blame goes specifically on the players, Andy Reid is responsible for the players he has on the field. He really overvalued Stacy Andrews this past offseason and neglected to draft any offensive lineman in the 2010 draft. Aside from the players, he is also not helping the line with his pass-happy play calling. The Eagles should have thrown more screens to have the Lions back off the blitz a little bit. Also, running the ball allows the line to use their big bodies rather than absorbing blows from the other team when they pass the ball. There is a lot of work to be done up front, and I hope this gets straightened out sooner rather than later.
Finally, I am not sure about anyone else, but Jason Peter is aggravating the hell out of me. Peters is constantly going down with some type of small injury and is overly dramatic. You would have thought this guy just went down with a career-ending injury. This happened on three separate instances on Sunday. Peters should be one of the leaders on that line and should be a dominating force. Peters, it’s time to man up and earn your paycheck!
