On the road to VICKtory

Over two months ago, I posted that the Eagles should name Michael Vick their starting QB. It took Andy Reid about ten more days to reach that decision. But, you know, he’s the coach and I’m just some guy tapping out a blog post.

Vick was clearly better than Kolb and most certainly better than McNabb, who is finally being exposed for the mediocre QB he is. The fact that the Redskins gave him a ridiculous contract is another story. Congratulations to McNabb. He clearly is making out on that deal.

However, even I did not see Monday night’s performance coming. Vick completed 20 of 28 passes for 333 yards and four touchdowns. His passer rating was 150.7 on a scale in which 158.3 would be perfection. However, let’s not forget that the passer rating fails to pick up his running performance, which included 80 yards and two touchdowns. I do not recall seeing a QB perform like that ever, and certainly never from McNabb. Vick leads all QBs in rushing yards, passer rating and has not thrown an interception. McNabb on the other hand has thrown 11 interceptions, but who’s counting? Oh yeah, me.

The Eagles win over the Redskins places them in a tie for first place in the NFC East with the Giants, who they play Sunday night in Philly. The Eagles are currently favored to win by three. If Vick performs even close to Monday night’s performance, it will not even be close. But we can’t expect that again, or can we?
