FROM: SportsDayDFW

Former Cowboys linebacker Godfrey Myles died after suffering a massive stroke, the University of Florida athletics department confirmed Friday on its Twitter page. He was 42.

After starring at Florida, where he and former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith were college teammates, Myles played six seasons for the Cowboys after he was selected by Dallas in the third round of the 1991 NFL Draft. During his pro career, Myles appeared in 76 games and all 11 of his starts occurred during the Cowboys’ 1995 championship season. Myles tore the anterior cruciate ligaments in both knees, suffering the first such injury in Super Bowl XXVII while celebrating a touchdown scored by Jimmie Jones.

In March, Myles was indicted on federal charges in connection with an alleged $2.5 million mortgage fraud in Wellington, Fla.
