Giants want 1st Round pick in trade for Umenyiora

From: NFL.com

The Giants gave permission to Tony Agnone, Osi Umenyiora‘s agent, to seek a trade, and league sources said he was in contact with several teams Monday.

Teams aren’t willing to meet the Giants’ current asking price of a first-round draft pick in return for the 29-year-old defensive end. However, receiving a second- or third-round pick is feasible, sources said.

Some teams have health concerns about Umenyiora, who missed the 2008 season because of a knee injury, but any trade would be pending a physical anyway. Possible suitors include the Seahawks, Ravens, Patriots and possibly the Falcons, given how aggressive they have been and even despite the signing of free-agent DE Ray Edwards. The Browns also have been monitoring the pass-rusher market.

There were few top candidates on the open market in terms of pass-rushing ends, and several teams with Super Bowl aspirations, like Baltimore and New England, still have a need. So this situation could heat up should the Giants lower their expectations for a return in a trade.
