Jay Cutler Out Indefinitely

From: FOX Sports

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler led Chicago to its fifth consecutive win Sunday, and he did it while playing with a thumb that might be broken, team sources told FOXSports.com. The Chicago Tribune reported that Cutler sustained a fracture in his right (throwing) thumb and will be out six to eight weeks.

The Bears declined comment. Cutler's agent, Bus Cook, did not return messages from The Associated Press.
Surgery is an option for Cutler but the Bears reportedly have no plans to place him on injured reserve. With six weeks left in the regular season, he could return for the playoffs.

Cutler sustained the blow in Sunday's 31-20 win over the Chargers when attempting to stop a touchdown on an Antoine Cason interception return. In the process he was knocked to the ground by linebacker Donald Butler.

Cutler played through the injury, completing 18 of 31 passes for 286 yards and two touchdowns with an interception.

Caleb Hanie will fill in as quarterback in Cutler's absence.
