Rivers wants Norv Turner to return

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers let it be known yesterday it is his belief that the problem with the Chargers is not head coach Norv Turner, who he absolutely loves, but more to do with personnel in a few spots — who’s here, and who’s no longer here according to Nick Canepa of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Sometime this week the boss will make up his mind on the fate of Turner, who Dean Spanos doesn’t want to fire. The owner could be having second thoughts, given how much he knows the players — and especially Rivers — are in Norv’s corner. Word is General Manager A.J. Smith may be staying put, and if he is, it wouldn’t bother him if the only coach he’s hired stays around.

“You guys are making the wrong assessment,” Rivers, wrapped in a towel, yelled back over his shoulder as he headed for the training room, the very private domain. “Did you see that little guy (Darren Sproles) running in New Orleans today? He used to be on our team!”
