Asante Samuel trade rumors heating up again

The Eagles entertained trade discussions twice last year for cornerback Asante Samuel but decided against pulling the trigger. It’s believed they will move him this offseason rather than fork over the $8.4 million he’s due according to Geoff Mosher of the Wilmington News Journal.

Talks will likely heat up next week during the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

“Whenever you have a surplus at a particular position there are talks around the league, people call and your phone does ring,” Eagles GM Howie Roseman said, “and that’s happened in the past couple years by our quarterback situation.”

Roseman avoided specific questions about Samuel’s future but left the door open for any possibility, including trade.

“We’re always open to phone calls and to seeing if something works,” Roseman said, “and really if there are win-win situations for particular teams and particular players, we’ll look at that and make a decision kind of in a vacuum.”

Samuel recently told reporters at charity event that he hoped to come back next season, but he also spoke out against the front office during the season after hearing his name involved in reports right before the trade deadline.

After hearing the recent rumors, Samuel tweeted the following Saturday night, "If they trade me where would you guys like to see me go????"
